The story hits that sweet spot of unsettling sci-fi mystery. You are constantly hearing whispers from the Abyss, hinting at the cult-like Collective and the catastrophic event known as the Scourge. It is not just about shooting things; the game really leans into this haunting narrative that makes you feel like an intruder in a place that is still very much alive and waiting for you. The game does a great job of making you feel like a small, expendable gear in a much larger, darker machine.
What really sold me, though, is the gameplay loop. It feels like a frantic, first-person dance. You spend half your time sprinting, jumping, and dashing through these massive, brutalist environments, and the other half locked in intense combat. The gunplay is essentially a bullet hell in first-person, which is a rare combination. You have to be quick on your feet and ready to swap tactics instantly because those corrupted souls and cosmic horrors do not play fair. You will be dodging projectiles while trying to line up shots, and honestly, when the rhythm clicks, it feels fantastic.
It is not a relaxing game, and it does not try to be. It is brutal, weird, and demands your full attention.
